Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 17 October 2026
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern access to and use of the Schemvia website, applications, APIs and related services (together, the “Service”).
The Service is operated by Hexlane Systems Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number16979924, with its registered office atCorbiere Church Hill, Chilton, Didcot, England, OX11 0SH, trading asSchemvia (“Schemvia”, “we”, “us” or “our”).
By creating an account, accepting these Terms, purchasing a subscription, using our API or CI integrations, or using the Service, including the anonymous analysis functionality, you agree to these Terms.
If you use Schemvia on behalf of a company or other organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms. In that case, “you” includes that organisation.
If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Service.
1. About Schemvia
Schemvia is a software service for analysing the semantic compatibility and evolution of JSON Schemas.
Depending on the plan and functionality available to you, the Service may include:
- anonymous schema analysis;
- registered Free and Pro accounts;
- stored projects and schema versions;
- compatibility analysis and diagnostics;
- team and workspace collaboration;
- API and CI access; and
- related account, administration and billing functionality.
Features, usage limits and other characteristics of individual plans are described on our website or during the subscription process.
2. Eligibility and authority
You must be at least 18 years old, or otherwise have legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement, to create an account or purchase a paid subscription.
If you use the Service as part of your work for an organisation, you represent that you are authorised to use the Service on its behalf.
You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the Service complies with laws and regulations applicable to you.
3. Accounts
Certain features require a Schemvia account.
Authentication is provided through a third-party authentication provider. You must provide accurate account information and keep it reasonably up to date.
You are responsible for:
- maintaining the security of your account and authentication credentials;
- ensuring that only authorised persons use your account;
- promptly notifying us if you become aware of unauthorised access or a security incident affecting your account; and
- activity carried out through your account to the extent that such activity results from your actions or failure to take reasonable security precautions.
You must not share authentication credentials in a manner that circumvents account or plan restrictions.
We may require additional authentication or security measures where reasonably necessary to protect the Service or its users.
4. Workspaces and team accounts
Schemvia may allow users to create or participate in shared workspaces.
Users within a workspace may have different roles, such as owner, administrator, member or billing administrator. Those roles may allow users to invite or remove other users, access Customer Content, manage subscriptions or perform other administrative actions.
Workspace owners and administrators are responsible for managing workspace membership and permissions.
If you join a workspace controlled by another person or organisation, that workspace’s authorised administrators may be able to access, modify, export or delete content associated with the workspace and may be able to remove your access.
Where an organisation controls a workspace, the organisation may be the relevant customer for purposes of these Terms.
5. Anonymous use
Certain Schemvia functionality may be available without an account.
Anonymous analysis is intended to allow users to evaluate or make limited use of Schemvia without creating a stored project or permanent analysis history.
Anonymous use may be subject to stricter usage and rate limits than authenticated plans.
We may use technical measures, including network or device-related signals, to enforce such limits and prevent abuse.
You must not attempt to circumvent anonymous usage limits by technical means, automated account creation, IP rotation or similar measures.
6. Right to use the Service
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to access and use the Service for your own internal, professional, development or business purposes during the period in which you are entitled to use the applicable Service.
This right does not transfer ownership of the Service or any Schemvia software, algorithms or intellectual property to you.
Except where expressly permitted by law or by us in writing, you must not:
- copy, modify or create derivative works from the Service itself;
- reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code from hosted Schemvia software;
- sell, sublicense or make the Service available to third parties as your own service;
- use the Service to create a substantially competing hosted schema-analysis service by systematically reproducing Schemvia functionality or outputs; or
- remove or obscure intellectual-property notices belonging to Schemvia.
This section does not prevent you from using Schemvia analysis results in your own software-development processes or from independently developing software with similar functionality.
7. Customer Content
“Customer Content” means information that you or users within your workspace submit to or store in the Service, including:
- JSON Schemas;
- project and schema-version information;
- names and metadata;
- configuration information; and
- other material submitted through the Service.
As between you and Schemvia, you retain ownership of your Customer Content.
You grant Schemvia a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, copy, process, transmit and otherwise use Customer Content solely as reasonably necessary to:
- provide the Service;
- perform requested analysis;
- maintain, secure and troubleshoot the Service;
- provide support requested by you;
- comply with applicable law; and
- exercise our rights and obligations under these Terms.
This licence ends when the relevant Customer Content is deleted, except to the extent that temporary retention, backups or continued retention are reasonably required under our documented retention practices or applicable law.
We do not acquire ownership of your JSON Schemas by processing them.
8. Your responsibility for Customer Content
You are responsible for Customer Content that you submit to the Service.
You represent that you have all rights and permissions necessary to submit and process that Customer Content through Schemvia.
You must not knowingly submit content where doing so would:
- infringe another person’s intellectual-property rights;
- breach confidentiality obligations;
- violate applicable data-protection or privacy law;
- violate applicable law; or
- expose Schemvia systems to malicious code or security threats.
JSON Schemas can contain arbitrary strings, descriptions, examples and other metadata. You should avoid including personal, sensitive or confidential information that is not necessary for the intended analysis.
9. Analysis results
Schemvia generates compatibility results, diagnostics and related technical information from submitted schemas (“Analysis Results”).
You may use, copy and export Analysis Results generated from your Customer Content for your own business, development and operational purposes.
Schemvia retains all rights in the underlying analysis engine, algorithms, software, rules, methodologies and other technology used to generate those results.
Analysis Results are automated technical assessments. Although Schemvia is designed to provide accurate semantic compatibility analysis, software analysis inherently has limitations.
In particular:
- an Analysis Result does not guarantee that two systems will operate correctly together in every runtime environment;
- results may depend on the applicable JSON Schema dialect, configuration, engine version and analysis policy;
- software defects or ambiguous schema semantics may result in incorrect or incomplete diagnostics; and
- Schemvia does not replace appropriate software testing, review or deployment controls.
You remain responsible for deciding how to use Analysis Results.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, Schemvia does not provide certification that a schema, API or system complies with any particular legal, regulatory, security or industry requirement.
10. Confidentiality
We treat Customer Content as confidential information.
We will not disclose Customer Content to third parties except:
- to service providers involved in operating the Service;
- where instructed or authorised by you;
- where reasonably necessary to provide requested support;
- where required by law or a lawful authority; or
- where otherwise permitted by these Terms.
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to restrict access to Customer Content to personnel and systems that require such access.
Where Schemvia personnel need access to Customer Content for support, security or operational purposes, such access should be limited to authorised personnel and subject to appropriate access controls.
Confidentiality obligations do not apply to information that:
- is or becomes public other than through a breach of confidentiality;
- was lawfully known to the receiving party without confidentiality restrictions;
- is lawfully received from a third party without confidentiality obligations; or
- is independently developed without use of the other party’s confidential information.
11. Acceptable use
You must not use the Service:
- for unlawful, fraudulent or abusive purposes;
- to infringe intellectual-property, privacy or other legal rights;
- to upload or distribute malware or intentionally harmful code;
- to obtain unauthorised access to another account, workspace or system;
- to bypass authentication, authorisation, tenancy controls, rate limits or usage restrictions;
- to interfere with or materially degrade the availability or performance of the Service;
- to conduct denial-of-service activity;
- to probe, scan or test vulnerabilities without our authorisation, except where expressly permitted under a published vulnerability-disclosure policy;
- to scrape or automatically extract substantial portions of the Service other than through interfaces we make available for automated use;
- to misrepresent the origin of requests or impersonate another person; or
- in a way that creates unreasonable technical load or security risk.
Reasonable automated use through our documented APIs and CI integrations is permitted subject to your plan limits and these Terms.
12. API and CI access
Where your plan includes API or CI access, we may provide credentials or tokens allowing automated access to the Service.
You must protect those credentials from unauthorised use and must not embed private credentials in publicly accessible source code.
API access may be subject to:
- request limits;
- concurrency limits;
- storage limits;
- fair-use controls; and
- other limits associated with your plan.
We may modify APIs from time to time. Where reasonably practicable, we will provide notice before making a material backwards-incompatible change to a generally available API relied upon by paying customers.
We may make immediate changes where necessary to address security vulnerabilities, comply with law or protect the Service.
13. Free and paid plans
Schemvia may provide both free and paid plans.
Free services may be subject to limits on usage, projects, storage, collaboration, API access or other functionality.
We may modify limits or functionality applicable to anonymous or Free use from time to time.
For a paid subscription, the features and limits described when you subscribe form part of your agreement with us.
We will not knowingly reduce the core functionality of a paid subscription during a prepaid subscription period in a materially adverse way except where reasonably necessary for security, legal, regulatory or technical reasons.
14. Billing and Paddle
Paid subscriptions are sold and billed throughPaddle, which acts as merchant of record and authorised reseller for Schemvia subscriptions.
Paddle handles matters including:
- checkout;
- payment processing;
- payment methods;
- applicable VAT and sales taxes;
- invoices;
- subscription charges;
- payment fraud and chargebacks; and
- applicable payment refunds.
Schemvia does not receive or store your complete payment-card details.
Your purchase through Paddle is also subject to Paddle’s applicable buyer terms and checkout terms.
The order and payment process is conducted through Paddle as Schemvia’s merchant-of-record provider. You purchase the applicable subscription through Paddle, while Schemvia provides and licenses access to the Service.
Questions specifically concerning a payment, payment method, invoice or payment refund may therefore need to be handled by Paddle.
15. Subscription renewals
Unless the subscription terms shown at checkout state otherwise, paid subscriptions automatically renew for successive periods equivalent to the applicable subscription term until cancelled.
By purchasing a recurring subscription, you authorise Paddle to collect the applicable recurring charges in accordance with the subscription information shown during checkout and Paddle’s applicable terms.
You are responsible for reviewing the price, billing frequency and subscription terms displayed before completing a purchase.
16. Cancellation
You may cancel renewal of a paid subscription through the cancellation method made available by Paddle or Schemvia.
Unless otherwise required by law or stated at the time of purchase, cancellation prevents the next renewal and does not immediately terminate access for a subscription period that has already been paid for.
Your paid functionality will ordinarily remain available until the end of the current paid subscription period.
Deleting a Schemvia account does not necessarily cancel an independently active Paddle subscription. You should follow the available subscription-cancellation process before deleting your account.
17. Refunds
Payment refunds are processed through Paddle.
Our applicable refund policy is available at https://schemvia.com/legal/refund.
Nothing in these Terms limits any statutory right to a refund, cancellation or other remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Where you purchase as a consumer, additional statutory rights may apply.
18. Prices and changes to paid subscriptions
Current prices are displayed on our website or through the checkout process.
Prices may be changed from time to time.
A change to the price of an existing recurring subscription will apply only in accordance with the notice and renewal requirements applicable to that subscription and applicable law.
Where reasonably practicable, we or Paddle will notify you before a changed subscription price takes effect.
Applicable taxes are handled through Paddle as merchant of record.
19. Trials and promotions
We may offer trials, introductory pricing or promotional plans.
Any additional conditions applying to a promotion or trial will be shown when it is offered.
Unless stated otherwise, we may determine eligibility for promotions and prevent repeated use intended to circumvent eligibility restrictions.
If a trial automatically converts into a paid subscription, this will be disclosed before you begin the trial.
20. Service availability
We aim to operate Schemvia as a reliable production service, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability.
The Service may be temporarily unavailable because of:
- planned maintenance;
- emergency maintenance;
- third-party infrastructure failures;
- security incidents;
- internet or network failures;
- software defects; or
- circumstances outside our reasonable control.
Unless a separate written agreement expressly provides otherwise, no specific uptime, recovery-time or support-response service-level agreement applies.
We may schedule maintenance and deploy changes as reasonably necessary to operate and improve the Service.
21. Changes to the Service
We may change, add or remove Service functionality as the product evolves.
For paying customers, we will use reasonable efforts to avoid materially reducing the principal functionality of the purchased plan during an existing prepaid subscription period.
This does not prevent us from making changes necessary to:
- resolve security issues;
- comply with law;
- respond to changes in third-party systems or standards;
- replace functionality with materially equivalent functionality; or
- protect the integrity or reliability of the Service.
22. Beta and experimental features
We may occasionally provide features identified as beta, preview, experimental or similar.
Such functionality may be incomplete, changed substantially or withdrawn.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, you should not rely on beta functionality for production-critical operations.
Additional terms may apply to particular preview features.
23. Intellectual property
Schemvia and its licensors retain all intellectual-property rights in the Service, including:
- source and object code;
- user interfaces;
- architecture;
- analysis algorithms;
- diagnostic systems;
- documentation;
- trademarks and branding; and
- other technology used to operate the Service.
Except for the rights expressly granted in these Terms, no intellectual-property rights are transferred to you.
“Schemvia” and associated branding may not be used in a way that suggests sponsorship, endorsement or affiliation without our permission.
24. Feedback
If you provide suggestions, feature requests or other feedback about Schemvia, you grant us permission to use that feedback without restriction or compensation.
This does not give us rights in Customer Content merely because Customer Content is used when describing an issue or suggestion.
25. Third-party services
Schemvia relies on third-party infrastructure and services, including providers of authentication, hosting, database infrastructure, billing, email delivery and monitoring.
Certain third-party services may be subject to separate terms or privacy notices.
We are not responsible for third-party products or services that you independently choose to integrate with Schemvia, except to the extent that responsibility cannot lawfully be excluded.
26. Data protection
Our processing of personal data is described in the Schemvia Privacy Policy, available at https://schemvia.com/legal/privacy.
Where we process personal data contained in Customer Content on behalf of a business customer as a processor, our Data Processing Agreement, where applicable, is available at https://schemvia.com/legal/dpa.
You are responsible for determining whether your use of Schemvia requires a data-processing agreement and for ensuring that you have an appropriate lawful basis for personal data that you submit to the Service.
27. Security
We maintain technical and organisational measures intended to protect the Service and Customer Content.
You acknowledge that no internet-based service can guarantee absolute security.
You must promptly notify us at security@schemvia.comif you reasonably believe:
- your account has been compromised;
- API credentials have been exposed;
- unauthorised access to a workspace has occurred; or
- you have discovered a potential security vulnerability affecting Schemvia.
You must not publicly disclose an unremediated security vulnerability in a manner that creates an unreasonable risk to Schemvia users before giving us a reasonable opportunity to investigate and address it.
28. Suspension
We may temporarily suspend some or all access to the Service where reasonably necessary because:
- you materially breach these Terms;
- subscription charges remain unpaid;
- use of the Service presents a security risk;
- we reasonably suspect fraud or unlawful activity;
- your activity threatens the operation of the Service or other customers;
- suspension is required by law or a competent authority; or
- emergency technical action is necessary.
Where circumstances reasonably permit, we will provide notice and an opportunity to remedy the issue before suspension.
We may suspend access immediately where delay could create material security, legal or operational risk.
We will restore access where the reason for suspension has been resolved and continued suspension is no longer reasonably necessary.
29. Termination by you
You may stop using Schemvia at any time.
You may close your account using available account functionality or by contacting us.
If you belong to a workspace owned by another customer, closing your personal account does not necessarily require deletion of content owned or controlled by that workspace.
Closing an account and cancelling a paid subscription are separate actions unless expressly indicated otherwise.
30. Termination by Schemvia
We may terminate your right to use the Service if:
- you materially breach these Terms and, where the breach can reasonably be remedied, fail to remedy it after notice;
- you use the Service unlawfully or fraudulently;
- continued provision of the Service would create a material security or legal risk;
- we are legally required to terminate the Service; or
- you engage in serious or repeated abuse of the Service.
For serious security, fraud or unlawful-use issues, termination may be immediate.
We may discontinue an entire Free service or the Service as a whole. Where a paid Service is discontinued, we will provide reasonable notice where practicable and address prepaid unused subscription periods as required by applicable law and the applicable Paddle arrangements.
31. Effect of termination
When your right to use the Service ends:
- your licence to use the Service ends;
- access to the relevant account or workspace may cease;
- Customer Content may enter our applicable deletion and recovery process; and
- provisions which by their nature should survive termination remain in effect.
These include provisions concerning intellectual property, confidentiality, outstanding payments, disclaimers, limitations of liability and dispute provisions.
Certain billing, audit, security and accounting records may be retained where reasonably necessary or legally required.
32. Exporting data
Where export functionality is included in the Service, you are responsible for exporting information you wish to retain before deleting a workspace or terminating an account.
We may provide a limited recovery period for deleted workspaces or data, but you should not rely on that recovery period as a backup service.
You are responsible for maintaining appropriate copies of important information where necessary for your business-continuity requirements.
33. Warranties
We will provide the Service with reasonable care and skill.
Except as expressly stated in these Terms and to the extent permitted by law, the Service is provided on an “as available” basis.
We do not warrant that:
- the Service will be continuously available;
- all software defects will be corrected immediately;
- every Analysis Result will identify every possible compatibility issue;
- results will apply to every software implementation or runtime environment; or
- the Service will meet requirements that you have not communicated to us and that we have not expressly agreed to meet.
Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or statutory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
34. Business users: excluded losses
This section applies where you use Schemvia wholly or mainly for business purposes.
To the extent permitted by law, neither party will be liable to the other for indirect or consequential loss arising from these Terms.
Schemvia will not be liable for loss of:
- profits;
- anticipated savings;
- business opportunities;
- revenue; or
- goodwill,
except to the extent that such loss constitutes a direct loss which cannot reasonably be excluded under applicable law.
You remain responsible for maintaining appropriate testing, deployment and backup procedures and for independently evaluating Analysis Results before relying on them for material production decisions.
35. Business users: liability cap
This section applies where you use Schemvia wholly or mainly for business purposes.
Subject to section 36, Schemvia’s total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms during any twelve-month period will not exceed the greater of:
- the fees paid or payable in respect of your Schemvia subscription during the twelve months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim; or
- £100.
If you have entered into a separate order form or enterprise agreement containing a different liability cap, that agreed cap will apply instead.
36. Liability that is not excluded
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.
In particular, nothing excludes or limits liability for:
- death or personal injury caused by negligence;
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or
- any liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
If you use Schemvia as a consumer, nothing in these Terms affects statutory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.
37. Business-user indemnity
Where you use Schemvia for business purposes, you will indemnify Schemvia against reasonable third-party claims, damages and costs to the extent directly resulting from:
- Customer Content that infringes a third party’s intellectual-property rights;
- your unlawful use of the Service; or
- your material breach of section 11.
This indemnity does not apply to the extent that the relevant claim results from Schemvia’s own breach, negligence or unauthorised modification or use of Customer Content.
We will provide reasonable notice of a covered third-party claim and allow you reasonable involvement in its defence or settlement.
38. Consumer rights
If you use the Service for purposes wholly or mainly outside your trade, business, craft or profession, you may be a consumer under applicable law.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or restrict consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.
If a provision of these Terms conflicts with a mandatory consumer right applicable to you, the mandatory consumer right takes precedence.
Depending on your location and the circumstances of your purchase, you may also have statutory cancellation, refund, conformity or other remedies.
39. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time.
Changes may be necessary because of:
- changes to the Service;
- new functionality;
- changes in law or regulation;
- security requirements;
- changes to our commercial model; or
- changes to third-party services.
We will publish the updated Terms and revise the “Last updated” date.
Where a change materially affects the rights or obligations of an existing paid customer, we will provide reasonable notice.
Where reasonably practicable, materially adverse commercial changes will take effect for an existing paid subscription at its next renewal rather than during an already-paid subscription period.
Changes required by law or necessary to address security or misuse may take effect sooner.
Continuing to use the Service after updated Terms have taken effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.
40. Communications and notices
We may provide notices relating to the Service through:
- email to the address associated with your account;
- notifications within the Service; or
- notices posted on our website.
You are responsible for maintaining a current email address on your account.
Formal legal notices to Schemvia should be sent to:
Hexlane Systems Ltd
Corbiere Church Hill, Chilton, Didcot, England, OX11 0SH
Email: support@schemvia.com
41. Force majeure
Neither party will be liable for delay or failure to perform an obligation caused by circumstances beyond its reasonable control, except for an obligation to pay amounts already due.
Such circumstances may include significant internet or infrastructure failures, natural disasters, war, civil disturbance, government action, widespread cyberattacks and failures of essential third-party infrastructure outside the affected party’s reasonable control.
42. Assignment
You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms without our prior written consent, which will not be unreasonably withheld in connection with a bona fide corporate reorganisation or sale of substantially all of your relevant business.
We may assign these Terms as part of a merger, acquisition, corporate reorganisation or sale of all or substantially all of the relevant Schemvia business, provided that doing so does not materially reduce your rights under an existing paid subscription.
43. Entire agreement
These Terms, together with documents expressly incorporated into them and any applicable order form, constitute the agreement between you and Schemvia concerning use of the Service.
If you have entered into a separately signed agreement or order form with Schemvia and that document conflicts with these Terms, the separately agreed document takes precedence to the extent of the conflict.
Nothing in this section excludes liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
44. No waiver
If either party delays or fails to enforce a provision of these Terms, that does not waive its right to enforce that provision later.
45. Severability
If a provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect.
The invalid provision will, where legally possible, be interpreted or modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving its intended commercial effect.
46. Third-party rights
Except where these Terms expressly state otherwise, a person who is not a party to these Terms has no right to enforce them under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.
47. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms and any non-contractual obligations arising from them are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
If you use Schemvia for business purposes, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service.
If you are a consumer, this section does not deprive you of any mandatory right you may have to bring proceedings in another court or rely on mandatory laws applicable in your place of residence.
